Australian travelers have one notable annoyance that annoys them when they’re on vacation: delays.
The unsurprising headache came out on top in a survey of the biggest holiday irritations.
About a third of Australians surveyed by Compare the Market said travel delays, such as to flee were their biggest fear.
The next biggest annoyance, however, was drunk or disorderly tourists wreaking havoc abroad.
Then scam and pickpockets were a problem. The company said it has seen an increase in the number of people claiming to be connected to this Euro tourist hotspots such as Italy and France.
Also on the list of travel irritations were poor exchange rates, which meant that holiday money did not go very far.
Surprisingly, the top five consisted of other travelers being rude to people, such as airline staff and waiters.
Compare the Market’s Adrian Taylor said the results are not surprising given the effort Aussies have put into organizing an international trip.
“We are an island nation, so any attempt to go abroad is often a major commitment for many in terms of money and time,” Adrian said.
“It is therefore not surprising to see that delays to that well-deserved holiday are the main thing that irritates people.
“A three-hour delay at the terminal gate can mean people have three hours less time to explore a city, take a walk or laze on the beach.
“And while many of these delays cannot be avoided, they can be difficult to accept when a lot of time and effort has been invested in planning an overseas adventure. It’s not just about the time lost, but also about the experiences and memories that could have been created. made.
“That’s what makes these delays so frustrating.”

“There’s plenty of social media content around scams and thieves to be aware of, from the ‘Attenzione, pickpockets!’ That went viral to a tourist who thought a local was showing her around Morocco out of hospitality, only to be harassed for money,” Adrian said.
“We would urge anyone going abroad to research common practices in the country they are going to, and any common scams they should keep an eye out for.”
