Work like flight attendant It brings many benefits, but it also brings the need to interact with people.
And sometimes, especially during an already stressful situation like to travelDealing with people can be extra difficult.
Faye Lane worked on it aircraft for almost 25 years and shares the simple approach she takes when it comes to rude or stressed passengers.
“If someone is very frustrated or irritated, I go with them,” she told the PBS podcast The wrist
“Like, ‘Oh my god, I know, right? It’s so frustrating. It’s so annoying. Oh, I wish I could fix it!'”
By showing empathy, Faye revealed that she has been able to turn many difficult situations around.
“And then I can calm down and they usually come with me,” she said.
Of course, airline staff cannot always meet customer needs. For example, flight attendants cannot cancel a flight or do anything about delays.
Faye has dealt with everything from medical emergencies to all the passengers stuck on a plane for hours without food or toilets after being diverted due to severe weather.
But even toward the end of that ordeal, she said some travelers “hugged her at the end.”
Of course it doesn’t work for everyone.
“Most people are great, but when you put them in an aluminum tube in the air, under very stressful and infantilizing conditions, people can behave very, very badly – and often do,” she said.
It comes after another flight attendant called passengers guilty of a common airplane bathroom habit, warning that the practice will only make things “worse” during a flight.
The airline employee suggested last week that queuing for the bathroom was the wrong thing to do, and by staying in your seat you will end up going to the toilet sooner.
