Airline toilet habit, flight attendant wants passengers to stop: ‘Makes it worse’

Aflight attendant has called out passengers guilty of a common aeroplane toilet habit, warning that the practice will only make things “worse” during a flight.

It happens on most flights. There are only a handful of toilets at a time aircraft and often so many people decide to go right away that they end up queuing for the next available booth.

But while queuing seems like the right thing to do, a cabin crew member has said passengers should actually remain in their seats.

Restroom signs on the wall of the aircraft cabin that are illuminated in green indicate that it is not occupied and is available.

“Standing in line makes it worse because everyone thinks there will always be a line,” Rich Henderson told USA Today.

The airline employee, who runs the blog Two Guys on a Plane, suggests that if you stay in your seat, you’ll end up going to the bathroom sooner.

”I promise there will be a lull in toilet traffic. [Flight attendants] must also go.”

“Usually there’s a hole there for us to jump into, so there should be one for the passengers too.”

A flight attendant is claiming sexual harassment against a disabled passenger who forced her to help him go to the toilet.

If passengers waited in their seats, there would be less traffic around the bathroom and kitchen, Rich says, adding that it is also much safer.

“On an airplane, anything can happen in the blink of an eye. I don’t think people realize that it’s not completely safe to just wander around an airplane,” he said.

Apart from that, the worst time for passengers to go to the toilet is during meal service, when crew members are running around the cabin and driving around with the “heavy” food and drink cart.

If you have to go, you have to go, but next time there’s a line, maybe just wait the few extra minutes.
