Bin worker stuck in back of recycling lorry and crushed to death in Pakenham

A man was crushed to death while emptying recycling bins in Melbourne.

The 28-year-old was working on the recycling truck when he stopped to collect a container from a site in Pakenham at around 10am on Friday.

The man, who was working alone, jumped out of the truck and tried to empty the container when he was caught.

“WorkSafe is investigating the death of a lorry driver while collecting safe disposal documents at a Pakenham property on Friday,” WorkSafe Victoria said.

“The 28-year-old man is believed to have been working alone trying to empty a container when he became entangled in a lifting mechanism and was crushed in the back of the lorry.”

It is the 44th confirmed workplace death of 2024.
