An Australian-based data giant has set a high bar for staff bonuses with hundreds of staff set to watch $65,000 hit their bank accounts to ‘celebrate’ a monster recent deal.
AirTrunk will offer the big recharge in December to more than 330 employees in a move that will cost about $22 million.
Staff reportedly received the news on Monday, and the company said it wanted to “celebrate AirTrunk’s recent success and the world’s largest data center transaction.”
“AirTrunk has given over 330 employees a one-off bonus of A$65,000 each, totaling approximately A$22 million — in addition to existing incentive programs — in recognition of their contribution to AirTrunk’s success to date — the culmination of many years of hard work and sacrifice by our team,” the company said.
“The bonus is one of many examples of how we recognize our people and empower them to reach greater heights.”
The year-end cash infusion comes amid the acquisition by US private equity group Blackstone and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board in a $24 billion deal that will close within weeks.
AirTrunk is a data center specialist “building a platform for cloud, content and large enterprise customers”.
It was founded in Australia in 2015. and now operates 11 data centers in Sydney and Melbourne, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.
Earlier this year, the company was ranked in the top 10 best places to work in Australia and made headlines for sending its workforce to Bali to “drive us into our next phase of growth”.
Speaking to staff at the event in September, founder and CEO Robin Hooda said: “We haven’t even scratched the surface of what’s to come.
“That’s why we have to think differently, we have to constantly innovate. That’s how we’ll be relevant to our customers and stakeholders.”
More growth is expected, with AirTrunk saying “we have over 100 new roles opening up” next year.
