The cheapest days to fly in Australia these holidays have been revealed.
Number crunchers have dug into the data and come up with the best data to make your money go further Christmas holiday.
The cheapest one-way flights from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne are from December 3 to 5 and from December 10 to 13, says Compare the Market.
Flying on New Year’s Eve is also cheaper, experts say, if you don’t mind interrupting the festivities.
Meanwhile, the research found that despite the rising cost of living, it is actually slightly cheaper to fly in December than last year, by as much as 14 percent.
But being flexible on when you travel can also save you money. Compare the Market travel expert Catriona Rowntree said
“If you can, fly during the day when there isn’t as much demand,” Rowntree said.
“You hit rush hour when you leave after everyone is done at school or when you commute home from work, and that can be stressful.”
The Market’s executive general manager for general insurance, Adrian Taylor, said the drop in flight prices is a welcome relief for families hampered by the eye-watering rise in costs Australia has seen this year.
“We are seeing some declines in prices compared to last year, but without a doubt we expect prices to rise in the weeks leading up to the year-end holidays,” Taylor said.
“The best option for people would be to book early, see if there is any flexibility on the days they fly, and shop around for a deal, just as they would for car insurance or a better rate on their home loan .”
When it comes to the worst days to travel, it’s not surprising that the most expensive dates to fly within Australia are December 20 to 22 and December 26 to 29.
Experts also reminded Australians that it is important to get travel insurance, even if you are staying alone in the country.
