With 16 years of experience in the air, Cathay Pacific flight attendant Joyce Chan has seen many remarkable things at 30,000 feet.
This includes memorable and some not-so-memorable moments passengersone of which she shared with 9Travel.
Joyce shared some of her insights about flying and also revealed one of the “funniest incidents” she has encountered during her work.
When we asked about the “most hilarious” item a passenger left behind, the answer was as unexpected as it was completely understandable (if you’re a parent).
”One of the funniest incidents I’ve encountered was when a couple, busy getting in and out, accidentally left their baby on the seat,” Joyce tells 9Travel..
“Each parent thought the other had the baby until they reached the door of the plane.
“They rushed back to pick up their little one,” she adds, “proof that traveling with kids isn’t always a cakewalk.”
Joyce was also kind enough to share some flying ‘secrets’, revealing what it’s like behind the scenes and her top tips for passengers.
A common question is why airplanes dim their lights during takeoff and landing. And the answer is simple.
“It’s for your safety,” says Joyce. “By adapting to natural light and reducing glare from windows, passengers can quickly find emergency exits when necessary.”
And if you’re looking for better meal service, there are a few tricks you can try too.
“For business and first class passengers, you can pre-select your meal when you book your ticket or manage your reservation online. This way you can be sure that you will receive the meal of your preference before the flight.
“Additionally, there is a seating strategy to get the best meal service. Often the meal service starts at the front of the cabin and continues to the rear. Choosing a seat near the front increases your chances of being served sooner.”
