Never, ever book your hotel through a third-party website.
At least, that’s what people say hotel receptionist recommends her TikTok followers.
A creator named @mamafromarkansas shared a snippet of the “unspoken rules” everyone should be aware of when booking, arriving, and staying in a hotel.
“I work at the front desk of a hotel and I’m going to read a list of things not to do as someone visiting a hotel,” she began the clip.
The video is captioned: “Someone had to tell you guys how to act.”
Her number one “guest no-no” shows up late. You cannot arrive a day after your booking and expect the room to still be available. The creator says that if you don’t check in on time, your booking may be voided and the room given to someone else.
When you book, she suggests that you do so directly with the property, and not with a third party booking site.
“What’s going to happen is your reservation is going to be lost; you’re going to need a refund; you’re going to have to cancel. Something is going to happen and we can’t touch that reservation because you booked a third party,” she warned.
Some hotel staff also added in the comments that booking direct can often be cheaper.
She also warned guests to be mindful of their manners and behavior in a hotel. Don’t be “angry at employees for just doing their job,” she warned, also warning people not to bring their children to the hotel bar.
“This one is really important, number five: Please do not bring your children to any event,” she says. Don’t let them “walk around the hotel tearing things up while you’re drunk at the bar.”
One final problem she reads off her long list is guests who leave a bad review without speaking to the staff first. ”You didn’t give us a chance to solve your problems… So why write a bad review?”
Other hotel employees chimed in in the comments section, most of whom agreed with her laundry list of “no-nos.”
“As a front desk employee at a hotel, I completely agree with you,” one person wrote.
“People who don’t work in the hotel industry can never understand our frustration with third-party websites.”
