View and read photos reviews for hotels online are a few ways we can get an idea of what a property will look like when we decide to book accommodation.

However, sometimes what you see isn’t always the full picture.

Now, one hotel worker has shared a “red flag” that’s relatively easy to spot on arrival, suggesting it’s a sign you should look elsewhere to stay.

Santiago Leon, the general manager of The Robey, shared some advice with Business insider what to pay attention to when checking into a hotel.

“A simple but telling warning sign is when the lights in the common areas are not working,” he told the publication.

“As miniscule as it may sound, I think it speaks volumes about how well the hotel is maintained, the budget, the management and the attention to detail.”

He also warned guests to be wary if the hotel doesn’t ask for ID, and if pre-arrival communication or assistance with any questions is also poor, that’s another negative.

“Safety must be a top priority for hotels,” he added.

“I work at the reception of a hotel and I’m going to read a list of things not to do as someone visiting a hotel,” she began a video shared on TikTok.

Her number one “guest no-no” shows up late. She also warned guests to be mindful of their manners and behavior in a hotel.

Don’t be “angry at employees for just doing their job,” she warned, also warning people not to bring their children to the hotel bar.
