A traveler who has made many silent journeys in recent years told me 9Travel that it is the perfect compromise.
As a music lover, she traveled to attend various concerts across the US. ”I worked during the day and went to the show later,” she says.
‘It was quite easy, [me and my managers] weren’t friends on socials, at most team meetings it felt like I was still standing against a wall in my office. I’m sure they could have tracked me somehow, but they had no rule about where we were supposed to be.”
Another traveler tells us she even worked during a trip to Disneyland. “I worked from my hotel most of the day, but went to the park towards the end of the day so I could enjoy the rides.”
“I bought a portable charger that works with my laptop/tablet so I can work on the go. That has really helped with remote work.”
Silent trips are now so popular that even hotels are getting on board.
IHG Hotels & Resorts has launched customization ‘Hush Trip’ Packages for destinations across the country, making it easier for employees to work secretly from the road.
To sweeten the deal, they’ve even included a guarantee that if they get caught by their boss, they’ll get their next stay at an IHG hotel completely free.

Benefits for booking a silent tour vary by accommodation and include ‘I Promise This Is Coffee’ branded espresso martinis, free knock-off drinks at 5pm and even dedicated ‘WFH’ assistants to answer phone calls, manage printing needs and grocery shopping. .
Silent journeys are in line with the ‘Anti-Work Movement’, which has been gaining popularity in recent years.
This is reported by PwC Australia 2023 Future of work prospects it reflects “a sentiment where people are turning away from long hours, poor quality work, discretionary efforts and seeking greater purpose and impact from the work they do.”
