Elton John he says he still can’t see, months after a severe eye infection.
Speaking on stage at the gala performance The devil wears Prada musical in London on Sunday, John thanked his husband, David Furnish, saying he “was my rock”.
“I haven’t been able to come to a lot of previews because, as you know, I’ve lost my sight. So it’s hard for me to see it. But I love hearing it and, boy, it sounded good tonight,” said John, who wrote the music for the show.

In an interview with Good morning America last week, John said the problem was affecting his ability to work.
“Unfortunately I lost the sight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France and it’s already been four months since I’ve been out of sight and my left eye isn’t the best,” he said. .
“So there’s hope and encouragement that it’s going to be okay, but… I’m a bit stuck right now, because I can do something like this (interview), but go to the studio and record, I don’t know, because I can’t see the text to begin with.”
John, who is 77, first spoke publicly about his eyesight problem in September, when he divided on his Instagram page that he was “dealing with a severe eye infection that unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye.”

“I’m on the mend but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time for sight to return to the affected eye,” John wrote, before thanking the “excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family” for taking such good care about him.
“I spent the summer quietly recovering at home,” he wrote, adding that he “feels positive about the progress I’ve made in my healing and recovery so far.”

While John officially retired from touring in 2023 after a decade of performing live, he wrote the music for the musical The devil wears Prada. It is based on the 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger, which was also made into a film in 2006.
