“If you’ve ever struggled to fit your carry-on luggage into a ridiculously small overhead bin, or had to repack your bag because it was too heavy, or simply lost your luggage, you may already be familiar with luggage frenzy,” consumer site the Elliot Report say.

One traveler, Kelly Hayes-Raitt, told the site that she was charged €60 ($97) for a bag she had been allowed to take for free on an earlier part of her trip through Europe.

But she said a woman on the same flight, who was also told to deposit the money, refused.

“She had clearly chosen the low-cost airline to save some money, and the 60 euro fee would be a hardship. She frantically and angrily unpacked her bag and indiscriminately threw her personal belongings into the trash,” she told the website . .

The site advises travelers to pack light, know the rules, and if you’re likely to get caught, consider paying more for your flight and not using a budget airline.

It may be worth it in the long run.
