The Block Judge Shaynna Blaze has changed chambers for one European adventure, sharing some of her travel tips after an “amazing” adventure on Nine’s Outing.
She embarked on a 15 day river cruise along the Rhine, the Main and the Dubine, and visited cities such as Amsterdam and Budapest.
The places she visited were like a ‘fairytale picture book’ that came to life, she shares with 9Travel.
“Because you have the open decks, you can see all the cities you’re going to,” she tells us. “Every town has a castle, two or three churches, it’s that fairytale picture book experience that you can experience.”
Before the trip, the closest Blaze had come to a cruise was a notoriously rough crossing from Melbourne to Tasmania on the Spirit of Tasmania. This didn’t seem like it.
She even loved the small river cruise ship Emerald and would like to do more cruises with smaller ships.
One of the other perks was that she only had to unpack once, especially since she admits she’s known for always leaving something behind.
“When I put something away, I always have to have the drawer or door open so I don’t forget it,” she tells 9Travel.
Another packaging game changer for her is the invention of cube packing.
There’s another valuable lesson she’s learned over the years after consistently packing too many toiletries.
“Always look for the smaller travel size ones, they’re right up your alley,” she says.
“If you go to larger sizes, they can leak. They take up too much space and you don’t need as much as you think.”
After doing this cruise, she also says it is so important to do research.
“Google the areas you’re going to,” she says. “In Budapest, what sounded like a really cool bar, we ended up and it was a heavy metal joint with a tattoo parlor across the street…”
Meanwhile, back in Australia, she has a house in Kyneton, Victoria, which she has restored Rescue of a country house. She also enjoys spending time in regional Australia
The town of Bright in the High Country is “absolutely breathtaking”. Plus, she goes to Wilsons Promontory National Park in Gippsland for the “walking and the beauty.”
She also spent some time in the Murray area. “I love Ballarat because of the historic buildings, which are also really beautiful,” she says.
As for where her next vacation will be, she would like to visit Thailand, where she plans to explore some of the islands.
And her bucket list trip is to see the Northern Lights.
“I would like to go to Greenland, the North Pole, with my children and grandchildren,” she says.
Watch the second episode of Shaynna’s European adventure on September 28.
