Cape Coral Police Department officers responded to the Target on NE Pine Island Road last week for a past retail theft.
Loss Prevention at Target said that on Oct. 30, an unknown woman, later identified as Marlena Velez, 22, entered the store and grabbed items listed for sale.
Reports state that when Velez was at the cash register, she did not scan the bar codes of the items. Instead, officers said she scanned a fake barcode with lower prices.
Sixteen pieces of various household items and clothing were stolen. Officers said the total loss of the stolen goods was estimated at $US500.32 ($764.58) after reviewing security footage.
The security footage allegedly taken by Velež shows long black hair, a dark brown shirt, dark brown pants and glasses.
CCPD’s Facebook and Instagram accounts posted a picture of Velez to aid in identification.
An anonymous caller reported that she saw a post on social media and gave CCPD Velež’s Instagram key.
Officers then found Velez’s TikTok account. They said the video released on Oct. 30 shows her getting ready in the same clothes and glasses as seen on the Target surveillance video.

Velez filmed herself choosing items in the store and putting them in her car after leaving the store.
Velez appears to be a social media creator with nearly 300,000 followers on TikTok and 10,000 on Instagram.
According to the CCPD, officers located Velez and took her to the Lee County Jail where she faces one count of petit larceny more than $100, less than $750.
