Traveling the world for your work assignments, choose the best and most practical suitcase.
So what does a former Qantas captain who flew aircraft traveling with? for over 35 years?
Ex-pilot Jeremy Burfoot tells 9Travel he has a very specific favorite, one that he believes bridges the gap between ‘soft’ and ‘hard’.
Specifically, Jeremy uses a Samsonite spinner suitcase. Although it is a hard case, it is not so solid that it could break, he shares.
“They have to give,” he tells us. “It looks a bit tacky, but there’s quite a bit in there.”
“The advantage of that is that if it’s mistreated, it gives and doesn’t break,” he adds.
“It’s strong enough to protect most things, but it’s also lighter.”
When it comes to packing, Jeremy, like many travelers, always keeps a pair of noise-cancelling headphones in his carry-on.
“It eliminates all the annoying noises like babies crying and even reduces airplane noise,” Jeremy tells 9Travel.
He says they are also much better at listening to in-flight entertainment.
Meanwhile, all those rumors you’ve heard about the germs on airplanes are true, he says.
He likes to bring antiseptic wipes to use on the tray table because he says they haven’t been cleaned properly.
“They use a cloth to move the germs around, so the germs meet different germs,” he says, laughing.
As for the vacation destinations of retired pilots, he just returned from six weeks in Europe. Although he is also about to start flying again, this time for Air New Zealand.
The Secret Life of Flying by Captain Jeremy Burfoot is out now.
